Pic Carolyn Axtell

Dr Carolyn Axtell is a Senior Lecturer at the Institute of Work Psychology. Her areas of expertise are: Virtual/remote working; Perspective taking/empathy; The organisation of work/job design.

She gained a PhD in Work Psychology from the University of Sheffield after completing an MSc in Occupational Psychology University of Sheffield. Carolyn completed her BSc (Hons) in Psychology at the University of Hertfordshire. Chartered Occupational Psychologist and a member of British Psychological Society and a member of the Division of Occupational Psychology.

Teaching

Carolyn teaches on the MSc in Occupational Psychology and the MSc in HRM. She is Course Director for the MSc Occupational Psychology/MSc Work Psychology. On the MSc in Occupational Psychology she is module organiser for the work systems and human factors module as well as the wellbeing section of the training and wellbeing module. On the MSc in HRM Carolyn is the module organiser for the Employee and Organisational Development module. Carolyn bases her lecture content on leading edge research and incorporates activities, discussion and different media to enhance student learning.

Research

Over the years, Carolyn has worked with a range of organisations within both the public and private sector. These research projects have broadly related to either evaluating the impact of new technologies and new ways of working or helping organisations develop new work practices. Carolyn has also been invited to contribute to chapters/papers and speak at conferences on the topic of virtual working. Carolyn is also on the editorial boards for the Journal of Occupational and Organisational Psychology and the Journal of Business and Psychology.
