MSc in Management (International Business)

Successful international business managers have the ability to think strategically, to communicate effectively and to make key strategic choices, ranging from product and market diversification to establishing international collaborative arrangements like international strategic alliances, mergers and acquisitions. This 12 month programme  introduces key theories of international business and provides an understanding of major issues and challenges associated with analysis of the global business environment, formulation and implementation of international business strategies.

Led by a talented group of academics and practitioners, the emphasis on building international management skills is reflected in the use of innovative teaching and learning technologies in some of the modules. This is done with the objective of bringing the real world of international business into the classroom in order to enhance their ability to apply concepts and skills relevant to the problems of international business expansion. The programme combines the latest thinking in management theory with the practical skills that you need for your future career.

You will study core modules in people management, marketing, operations and accounting and financial management, as well as spending time developing the personal and problem-solving skills you will need as a professional. During the Spring semester you will study strategic management, international business strategy, and international management, and choose one from a range of options including branding, international human resources, and a number of modules on East Asian business.

Students completing the MSc also qualify for the Chartered Management Institute's Advanced Diploma in Management, and can work towards the coveted status of Chartered Manager conferred by the CMI.

This programme has been approved and accredited by The Chartered Institute of Marketing to meet to entry criteria for the Professional Certificate in Marketing.

Profile of typical candidate

This programme is aimed at recent graduates with a good degree in any subject and who wish to develop a good understanding of management principles and practice. You may be a recent graduate planning a career in management or you may be a professional looking for a career change.

Our dedicated Careers Service provides excellent support for Masters students and will help you develop the skills you need to progress your career. They are also able to put you in touch with a variety of different employers.

Entry specification

Fees

You will need a good degree in any subject (2:1 or higher) or approved professional qualification combined with a desire to learn about the principles and practices of management. You do not need prior management experience.

IELTS is our preferred test of language. You need an IELTS score of 7, with at least 6 in all the component tests.

If you are unable to sit the IELTS, you should take TOEFL. You need iBT 100, with a minimum component score of 23.

Course Fees for 2013-4 are:

  • GBP 9,000 for EU Students
  • GBP 16,500 non-EU Students

Alumni of the University are entitled to a scholarship of £1000 (reduction in fee charged) if they choose to remain at the University to study for a Masters programme.
