To be a world-class management school recognised for the delivery of intellectually rigorous cutting-edge research, and excellent teaching and learning in a stimulating, innovative environment. Through the distinctiveness of our graduates, excellence of our staff, and network of international partners, we look to inform the practice of management, and to make a difference to our community, locally and internationally.
The mission of the University of Sheffield Management School is to sustain a research-intensive environment that creates, advances and disseminates knowledge with respect to management inquiry, for the benefit of students, private and public sector organisations and society in general.
The University of Sheffield Management School has seen significant development in the last five years. The School improved its research output and quality between the last two Research Assessment Exercises moving from 23rd position in 2004 to joint 16th in 2008.
As the reputation of the School has increased, student numbers have followed suit with undergraduate numbers currently standing at 1500 and postgraduate numbers at 500.
The School has one of only 57 institutions worldwide to have received accreditation from AMBA, EQUIS and AACSB, the 'Triple Crown'. To receive all three accreditations, the School has undergone rigorous peer review and has successfully demonstrated excellence in learning and teaching, research, internationalisation and business engagement.
Professional Association Accreditations
Students at the School benefit from accreditations from an extensive range of professional associations including the Chartered Institute of Professional Development, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants, the Institute of Chartered Accountants, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants, the Chartered Management Institute, the Chartered Institute of Marketing, British Psychological Society and the Institute of Consulting
In line with the School’s future ambitions to join a global elite of triple-accredited Business Schools, the University has recognised the need for significant investment in new infrastructure. A budget of £11.5 million is being spent on the refurbishment of the Crookesmoor building to create world-class teaching, learning and business engagement facilities. The new building will be ready in April 2013.
In preparation for the move, the School has recruited additional professional services staff and restructured teams in order to meet the challenges of the future. New positions have been created to support marketing, student experience, business development, alumni and careers activities.
An award-winning University
This dynamic period of growth and development within the School, coupled with the reputation of the University make the University of Sheffield an exciting place to work. The most recent Times Higher Student Experience Survey placed our library facilities in joint first position with the University of Oxford, and the University of Sheffield was positioned at second place for overall student experience. Our National Student Survey results rank us in the top 10 universities overall for student satisfaction.
