University of Sheffield maps subject guide	This guide will help you to find the resources you need in both the library and on the Internet to study maps.

Google Earth	From Maui and Paris to local restaurants and schools, Google Earth brings a planet's worth of Earth imagery and other geographic information to your desktop. The Google Earth client (free version) is free to download for personal use. No registration is required.

Google maps	Can be used to find a location or a business or to get directions to anywhere in the world.
Multimap	Searchable map of the UK, which can be searched by place name or postcode, and provides aerial photographs covering most of the UK.
Open Street Map	OpenStreetMap is a free editable map of the whole world. OpenStreetMap allows you to view, edit and use geographical data in a collaborative way from anywhere on Earth.
Ordnance Survey	Web site of Ordnance Survey, providing details of all their maps, and a place names gazetteer.
Place names gazetteer	Gives access to a quarter of a million British placenames and their origins.
Streetmap	Searchable map of the UK mainland, which can be searched by street name, place name, postcode, OS grid reference, OS Landranger grid reference, or Lat/Long coordinates.
Vision of Britain	A vision of Britain between 1801 and 2001. Including maps, statistical trends and historical descriptions.
