Library services for visitors
The central function of the University of Sheffield Library is to serve the information needs of the University's own staff and students and those of the local NHS trusts with access agreements. However, locally, as a major contributor to the overall network of information and Library services in the Sheffield area, we welcome those outside the University who have a genuine need to use materials and services not available in other local libraries (the ALL agreement). Nationally, we participate in the CURL Access Policy, the SCONUL Vacation Access Scheme and are members of the SCONUL Access scheme.
All users of the Library are requested to observe the Library regulations and to be considerate of other Library users. Mobile phones must be switched onto silent before entering the Library; food or drink is allowed only in designated areas inside; and smoking is prohibited in University buildings. For your own security, CCTV cameras are in place throughout the Western Bank Library.
External customers are not able to use the Information Commons. The full access policy for the Information Commons is available.
Please note that children under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a responsible adult when visiting the Library and that young people aged 16 and 17 may only access the Library as registered external readers and parental consent will be required prior to registration.
