Reading lists Please send us copies of your Autumn & Spring Semester reading lists as soon as they are available, even if they have not changed from last year, so that we can update our information and add any items, such as journal articles, not previously included. We prefer lists electronically but we can also accept them in print format. Students will find it helpful if you indicate the priority for each item on the list e.g.
| Please include the module number, title and the module leader's name. Please give us an idea of the expected student numbers as this will help us decide upon the best loan status and the number of copies needed. |
| Please contact Sharon Cocker, tel (0114) 222-7256 or email readlist@sheffield.ac.uk. |

myResource Lists The improved automated reading list system, myResource Lists, allows us to include web links to electronic resources such as databases and full-text journal articles in addition to items physically held in the library stock. To reflect this enhanced capability we are now referring to reading lists as myResource Lists and you can find a link in the Quick links box on the Library homepage and also from our Star catalogue. Our aim is to provide an electronic version of your list which we can structure in any way you wish e.g. week by week or by seminar topic. The Resource lists URLs are stable, so if you wish to link from your departmental web pages and or MOLE course please do so. |
Ordering new books When your lists include books that are not held by the Library we will normally initiate an order for one or more copies of the book. We do not recommend that you rely on this as a way of getting the Library to purchase a book. Supply times for books vary considerably and if your list is delayed there could be a delay in placing the order for the books. You should recommend books for purchase as soon as possible through your Departmental Library Coordinators and/or the librarian for your department. |
Ebooks Within your resource lists you can also include direct links to the contents pages of an ebook. |
| An increasing number of ebooks and texts, usually classic works of history and literature, are also freely available on the web. A selection of these is available from: |
| For further details contact the librarian for your department. www.shef.ac.uk/library/libstaff/sllist |
Loan periods and numbers of copies Your librarian will be able to advise you on the use of the various loan periods (other than 3 weeks) and numbers of copies to improve availability of material to students. |
| Coursepacks are particularly appropriate where large numbers of students are all expected to read the same book chapter or journal article each week, especially if there is no course text book available. Please contact Sharon Cocker, tel (0114) 222-7256 or email readlist@sheffield.ac.uk for further details. |
Electronic offprints Digitised versions of print based material, not available elsewhere, can be made either under licence from the Copyright Licensing Agency or by permission from individual publishers. A link to the book chapter or article concerned can be made through the appropriate Resource list. Please contact Sharon Cocker, tel (0114) 222-7256 or email readlist@sheffield.ac.uk for further details. |
| If you are considering using text extracts, images and other content that is not your own in MOLE, there is a strong likelihood that this is covered by Copyright Law. Further information is available: |
Support for MOLE The Library has created online interactive Information skills tutorials in MOLE to help your students with searching for, evaluating and referencing information. If you would like to incorporate any of these into your own MOLE course, please contact the Quality and Development Team. |
Information literacy Apart from the online Information skills tutorials, the Learning and Research Services Team provide information literacy sessions customised to Departmental requirements. If you would like to include a session in your programme, please consult a member of our team. |
