Can I have longer Library loans?
Yes, if you are a full-time undergraduate or taught postgraduate student and you are registered with the Library for Additional Support. In most cases, the Disability and Dyslexia Support Service (DDSS) will register you with the Library, following your appointment with one of its Disability Advisors.
If you are a part-time undergraduate or taught postgraduate student, you will be automatically registered for longer loans and need take no further action.
If you are a full-time or part-time postgraduate research student with additional support requirements, your normal loan period cannot be extended but you can receive longer loans for books which have been reserved by another Library customer.
What are the longer loan periods?
Undergraduate and postgraduate taught course students:
- Normal loans - 2 weeks
- Books reserved by other Library customers - 4 days
Postgraduate research students:
- The normal loan period remains at 4 weeks
- Books reserved by other Library customers - 4 days
How do I apply for longer Library loans?
If you feel you would benefit from longer Library loans, simply submit the online form.
The Additional Support Service will then put your longer loans in place. If you are not registered with us, we will advise you on what action to take.
Do I have to pay fines?
The Library helps you to keep your Library loans up to date by sending out reminder emails when your loans are due for return. We also provide 24/7 renewal facilities. However, if you return or renew your Library loans late, you will be charged fines. These will only normally be waived if you have been unable to keep your loans up to date due to illness, personal/family problems, difficult events (e.g. bereavement) or serious incidents (e.g. being affected by crime). In such cases, simply present a Special Circumstances form at a Library Information Desk. Please refer to the See also box for more details.
