Major funders’ publication mandates
RCUK members and HEFCE are committed to supporting a managed transition to open access over the medium term. The underlying principle is that:
- publicly funded research must be made available to the public and remain accessible for future generations
Funders are therefore implementing open-access mandates for refereed outputs from research they fund. These publications should acknowledge the funding source and are being monitored for compliance. Guidance on acknowledgement style is available from RIN (Research Information Network). Similar conditions are also being introduced for managing research data outputs.
Finding your funder’s publication policy
The SHERPA JULIET website gives an outline of major funder policies. RCUK provides links to Research Council open access position statements. We recommend that you check your funding agreement for full details relevant to your grant award.
