Fines and charges
Please read our Library systems transition period for up-to-date information on Library services.
From Friday 14 June, if you need to renew items that are on loan to you, email us at library@sheffield.ac.uk and we will renew your items as soon as the new system becomes live.
Fines are charged on overdue InterLibrary Request items. An InterLibrary Request price list can be found at InterLibrary Request charges
Fines must be paid promptly, but borrowing will not be suspended until a limit of £10.00 on your borrower account has been exceeded.

Fines are charged according to the table below, up to a maximum fine of £15.00 on each loan.

We help you avoid fines by:
- Emailing you a reminder when your loans are due for return
- Providing 24/7 renewal facilities via 'my account' on StarPlus or the Renewals Hotline
You can help yourself avoid fines by:
- Checking 'my account' on StarPlus and your email box on a regular basis
- Renewing promptly, allowing time to return the book if you can't renew
If you have incurred fines, you can pay them in the following ways:
- University staff and students
Online via MUSE - click on the Library tab and look in myLibrary Account - NHS and external members
Go to Classic Star then the link to "My Account" and input your library number and pin
