Dolphin EasyConverter
What does it do?
This assistive software converts scanned and other electronic files into an accessible alternative format such as DAISY Talking Books, MP3 or Large Print. If appropriate, Dolphin EasyReader will then read your converted audio files to you.
Dolphin EasyConverter has many potential uses, for example:
- Academic staff can ensure that departmental documentation, lecture notes etc. are available in a format accessible to all students
- Customers with a visual impairment can have material converted very easily to DAISY (Digital Accessible Information System) Talking Books
- Students who have English as a second language may benefit from alternative formats
- An MP3 version of revision notes may help any student
- PDFs can be modified
Where can I access it?
- Information Commons Level 1: PCs 1051 and 1057
How do I use it?
Either click on the Dolphin EasyConverter icon on the PC desktop or From the Start menu at the bottom left-hand corner of the PC screen, select:
- Programs
- Dolphin
- Dolphin EasyConverter
Follow the user guides from the Quick links:
- If the document for conversion is simple and well-structured (please see Creating a well-structured document – some tips), you can use Quick Conversion and your accessible alternative format will be ready in a few minutes
- If the document for conversion is not well-structured or needs quite a bit of editing, we advise you to use the New Project option
- You can also simply amend a PDF using the New Project option
Please note that a converted file cannot be overwritten. If further editing is required, you need to carry out another conversion, using either your original document or your conversion.
Proof-reading of the converted file is always advisable because text layout may change during the editing stage.
Please see What assistive software is available? for information about booking the PCs and the lending of headphones, if required.
