How do I access electronic Library resources?
Information for part-time and distance learning students, students on placement, researchers studying at a distance and students with children
| Wherever you are in the world - provided you can access the internet with a modern web-browser - it should be possible for you to have 24/7 access to the electronic web-based resources and services provided by The University of Sheffield. These include the Library’s electronic journals, books and subject databases, all of which are available to registered students and staff of the University via MUSE (My University of Sheffield Environment). Access through MUSE is the secure, recommended and fully supported route to the Library's electronic resources for both U.K. and overseas students. |
How do I access electronic resources through MUSE?A ‘Log into MUSE’ prompt is available on almost all the University’s web pages. There is no need to download or install any additional software. Simply log into MUSE using your University network (Novell) username and password. There are several tabs on MUSE. Use the Library tab to connect to the Library's electronic resources (located in the ‘Library eResources’ section). Alternatively, you can access them via the Electronic Resources link on the Library web pages – you will be prompted to log into MUSE as necessary. |
What if I can’t access the electronic resources that I want?If you are unable to access a particular electronic journal, use Find it @ Sheffield or Star to check that the Library subscribes to that particular issue. Journal articles are not normally listed individually so please remember to search by journal title, not by author or title of a journal article. It is good practice to regularly clear your cache of temporary internet files and cookies because failure to do so can result in access problems. You can delete your browsing history from the ‘Tools’ button on any web page. The Library advertises scheduled maintenance, at risk periods and temporary unavailability of its electronic resources. You may like to check this information (available from the eResources service status link on the Library tab in MUSE.) If you still have problems with accessing a particular electronic resource, please email library@sheffield.ac.uk or use the ‘eResources feedback’ link from the Library tab in MUSE. |
Can I change my username and password? You cannot change your username but if you wish to change your password, please use the link below. This can also be used on the rare occasions when first time users may need to synchronise their passwords. |
