Access for customers with mobility difficulties: Northern General Hospital
Is the Northern General Hospital Library (NGHL) accessible?
The Library is on the ground floor of Samuel Fox House. The doors to Samuel Fox House are automatic and those to the Library are power-operated by means of a push pad.
There is an accessible toilet along the corridor to your right as you enter the building.
Are there any accessible parking spaces?
There is one dedicated accessible parking space at the front of the building. Access to the car park is barrier controlled and customers need a University parking permit and barrier pass. If you would like one of these, please contact Room and Parking Services on (0114) 222-9060 or email roompark@sheffield.ac.uk.
Disabled customers who are not registered members of the University should contact the local Porters on (0114) 222-2212 or 07770 620-648 to arrange access to the car park. A Local Authority 'Parking Card for People with Disabilities' must be displayed.
Is the Library accessible during un-staffed hours?
Swipecard access is required during un-staffed hours. You can register for this access in person during staffed hours at either the Royal Hallamshire Hospital Library or the NGHL. If this is not convenient, requests can be made by email to Alison Little (a.little@sheffield.ac.uk).
For details of staffed and un-staffed opening hours, please refer to:
http://www.sheffield.ac.uk/library/libsites/nghopen.html
There is currently only one fire exit which does not involve the negotiation of steps. In order to comply with Health and Safety regulations, we therefore advise wheelchair users to visit the NGHL only during staffed hours. If you require any further information, please contact the Health Sciences Library on (0114) 222-0537.
Emergency evacuation - where do I go?
If possible, please leave via the NGHL´s main entrance/exit and continue your exit through the main entrance/exit doors of Samuel Fox House. If this means of escape is blocked, staff will help you to safety via an alternative route.
Where is the Assembly Point?
Across the road from the Car Park outside of Samuel Fox House.
