Important information regarding signing in to StarPlus
The University Library is among the leaders in the UK in moving its computer-based management systems to next-generation cloud-based solutions. The new systems will bring a range of benefits for customers, making our services more robust and efficient, and enabling us to deliver new services.
The upgrade will take place over the Summer vacation and, during short periods, will have some impact on StarPlus and other services. We’re making every effort to minimise this impact and will include details of key dates to this page as they become available. Please continue to check this page for updates during the transition period and contact the Library HelpDesk by email library@sheffield.ac.uk, telephone 0114 222-7200, or talk to Library staff at any site if you’re experiencing difficulties using our online services.
StarPlus
StarPlus is currently being migrated to our new Library management system and further configurations will be carried out during the week commencing 24 June to complete this migration:
- Some records need to be removed from display in StarPlus as they are not available in the Library. In that situation, the following message will appear on the "Get it" tab. "Your search did not match any physical resource in the library"
- For records where the Library has both electronic and print copies, there are cases where both will not display in the record.
The Find it @Sheffield A-Z list of electronic journals will be integrated within StarPlus and the Library web pages will direct to StarPlus as a result of this change. External databases may still direct you to the Find it A-Z list for a short period but a message will be available on that page to redirect you.
Within StarPlus, the 'View Online' tab providing access to journal articles and other electronic information will be called 'View It'. The 'Locations' and ‘Request’ tabs providing information about print material will be combined and renamed ‘Get It'.
The 'New books' listing will be withdrawn. The service will be reinstated with the new system as soon as possible.
Logging in to StarPlus
University members should continue to log in to StarPlus using the usual University computer account username and password.
Non-University members should log in to StarPlus using their library user number and a new password; details of the new password will be sent out by email or details can be obtained from library sites
The number of items that you may borrow at any time has changed. The new limits are:
- 35 for University staff and research students and NHS staff
- 25 for all taught course students
- 5 for external customers
