Refurbishment 2012

Journal shelvesAs part of the Faculty of Medicine Dentistry and Health’s Medical School redevelopment, the Health Sciences Library (HSL) at RHH will be reconfigured and refurbished during 2012. The redevelopment offers an exciting opportunity to transform and upgrade the study environment for all HSL users. Key factors such as light, openness, accessibility, provision of power and network connectivity have been important throughout the design process. Following focus group discussions with students and staff from the Faculty of Medicine Dentistry and Health, a silent study area, group study rooms, individual study spaces with and without pcs and additional group study clusters have been incorporated into the Library’s plan. In addition to study spaces within the Library, the overall scheme will provide less formal spaces outside the Library in the Faculty’s new social hub/independent study and café area, where the new entrance to the Library will also be situated.

The work is due to take place between April and September. The library is committed to maintaining a HSL Library reading roomservice during that period, but customers will experience some disruption.  To keep up to date with developments throughout the period University customers should follow @UniSheffieldLib and Sheffield Teaching Hospitals customers @STHLibrarian on Twitter. Up to date information relating to services during the refurbishment can also be obtained from any Library site and these pages will be regularly updated throughout the period.
