Ejournals: JSTOR Arts and Sciences, Music, and Biological Sciences

Connect to JSTOR

JSTOR is a unique electronic archive of core research journals which was developed in the United States and is available from the JSTOR U.K. web site. The JSTOR platform was upgraded in 2010. Further information on the highlights of the platform update is available.

The University Library subscribes to several JSTOR archive collections: five Arts & Sciences collections, (I, II, III, IV and VII) the Ireland collection and the Biological Sciences collection, which includes the Ecology and Botany collection. The Arts & Sciences III collection includes the former Music collection. Listings of all titles included in the various JSTOR collections can be found on the JSTOR web site. The University Library also has separate current subscriptions to a number of journals from the JSTOR Current Scholarship Program.

Archive coverage is generally from volume 1 up to a "moving wall" of between 1 and 5 years ago, so that, as each year passes, another year is added to the archive, thus guaranteeing that it is being constantly updated. Current subscriptions include access back to the "Digital Availability Date" for each title, which JSTOR defines as "either: (a) the first online volume published that was also available for purchase by libraries from the publisher (e.g., not an aggregator), or (b) for titles not yet online, the year ahead of the moving wall".

Lists of the titles included in the individual collections are updated on a monthly basis. Only titles which satisfy JSTOR's strict criteria in order to guarantee their high academic standing are included in these collections. Criteria for inclusion are citation impact factor, ranking by subject experts, number of institutional subscriptions, and the length of the publication period.

MyJSTOR

By registering for MyJSTOR you can save searches, export article citations to bibliographic software, email article citations, update your user profile information, and accept the terms and conditions of use once, rather than being prompted to respond each time you download or print an article.

Links to recent content

In addition to the current content hosted by JSTOR for journals in the JSTOR Current Scholarship Program, JSTOR also includes a links to recent content feature for selected journals. More information on the Links to recent content feature is available. Please note that you will only be able to access the full text of recent issues if the Library has a subscription to the current content.

Citation Locator

Citation Locator is a search form that allows users to find a specific article using an easy, fill-in-the blanks form. To locate a single article, enter as much information as possible from an article reference or citation. The form will search multiple fields of a citation simultaneously, such as author name, article title, journal title, volume/issue information, year, etc.

Access

You are recommended to access individual electronic titles via the Find it @ Sheffield ejournals service. If you would like to see access implemented to a specific title please contact the librarian for your department.

Printing

Further help with printing from JSTOR is available from the JSTOR web site.

Citation manager

JSTOR citations can now be exported into a variety of different bibliographic management software packages, including EndNote, ProCite and Reference Manager. Further information and instructions on JSTOR and citation management are available.

Free early journal content

In late 2011, journal content in JSTOR which was published prior to 1923 in the United States and prior to 1870 elsewhere was made freely available to anyone, anywhere in the world. It includes nearly 500,000 articles from more than 200 journals.
