Linking to Library eResources via MOLE & other routes
Information for University staff
If you are considering using text, extracts, images, links to electronic journal articles or web sites and other content which is not in MOLE there is a strong likelihood it is covered by Copyright law. The Library has experience of clearing copyright and digitising and linking to journal articles through myResource Lists and it is recommended that this procedure is used to link the content to MOLE instead of adding it directly. These links made by the Library are stable and each time the list is checked broken links are repaired. However, if you have good pedagogical reasons for providing direct links and managing them yourself there is some advice below on how to embed links to Library eResources in MOLE.
If you do decide to make links yourself it is essential to read and take note of the electronic copyright advice in the Vista document "Copyright and MOLE" at http://www.shef.ac.uk/mole/staff/copyright
Quick linking regardless of location
If you embed links to Library eResources in MOLE or from elsewhere, you can now help to ensure that these links allow your students to access the Library´s IP restricted databases & ebooks regardless of location.
To ensure your students are recognised by resource suppliers as authorised users when accessing the resources to which you are linking, you will need to create all links to Library eResources in the following way - other methods may not give access:
- Open your preferred browser (ensure that it is one of the supported browsers : http://www.shef.ac.uk/cics/services/muse/browsers.html)
- From the ebook listings on the Library Web pages, right click on the required title & select ‘Copy short cut’/‘Copy link location’ or similar & paste
- From the A to Z database listings on the Library Web pages, select the required database. You will be taken to a Library Web page about the database. Right click on the ‘Connect to…’ link in the Quick links box & ‘Copy short cut’/‘Copy link location’ or similar & paste
When accessing an eResource via these links, your students will be asked to log into MUSE. They need only do this once per browser session.
