SciFinder web
SciFinder is a research discovery tool that allows you to explore the CAS databases containing literature from many scientific disciplines including biomedical sciences, chemistry, engineering, materials science, agricultural science, and more.
SciFinder offers:
- Access to current, high-quality scientific information
- Links to relevant journal articles and patent documents
- Capabilities for exploring substructures and reactions
Features include:
- Bioactivity and target indicators to easily assess the biological relevance of a specific substance or a substance answer set
- Substance relevance ranking, allowing you to quickly review answer sets and access the substance most similar to your query
- Keep Me Posted allows you to set up automatic alerts about your subjects of interest
Supported browsers
CAS does not support IE6. If you are using IE6 as your primary web browser, you will experience performance issues with SciFinder web. CAS strongly recommend that you upgrade your IE6 browser to one of the latest supported versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox or Safari.
January 2012 News
CAS are currently offering complimentary SciFinder access for some categories of unemployed former SciFinder users (e.g. unemployed researchers previously employed through third-party contract research organisations). If you think you may be eligible, complete the SciFinder access request form and CAS will contact you directly.
Registration for use locally or remotely
- Login to MUSE & connect to the Library database listings via the eResources links (located on the Library tab)
- Select SciFinder web from the A to Z list. On the SciFinder web page, click Register with SciFinder web (in the Quick links box)
- The SciFinder Welcome to user registration page will open. Follow the instructions and complete the contact information form. You must use your University of Sheffield email address to register
- You will receive an email to confirm your registration. You must click the link within the email within 48 hours or you will have to register again
Access
Access is available directly from this page by connecting to the SciFinder web web site - you'll be prompted to login to MUSE as necessary. Once connected to SciFinder, you will need to log in using the username and password you created when you registered.
