Addressing history

Addressing history was developed by EDINA in partnership with the National Library of Scotland & combines data from digitised historical Scottish Post Office Directories with maps from the same time period. It focuses on three eras of Edinburgh mapping & Post Office Directories: 1784-5, 1865 & 1905-6. For each of these eras, you can search & browse for individuals, businesses, professions & addresses from across Edinburgh.

Registration

You do not need to register to search & explore Addressing history. However, by registering for an account you will be able to place historical addresses on the map & edit the data to correct small errors. To register, connect to the Addressing history web site then click on the 'login' button to access the registration form. There is also an Application Programming Interface (API) that allows you to combine Addressing history data with other tools and mash-ups.
