Review of Feedback and Assessment

Following an initial review of assessment carried out in 2005-6, a second phase has been carried out from March 2008 and is due to conclude early in academic session 2010-11. The Review was split into 4, with a different working group looking at each area.

  1. Expectations and Culture
    Considering students' pre-University experience of assessment and feedback, relating this to staff expectations of assessment and feedback at University and making recommendations of how the two can be reconciled.

  2. The Purposes of Assessment
    Focussing on the purposes of diagnostic, formative and summative assessments in HE. Also the roles of assessment within the personal development of students as well as in the context of maintaining standards.

    Consideration of existing processes of assessment and the impact of semesterisation and modularisation.

  4. The final group will bring together the findings of the 3 groups above and make recommendations as to the University's future policy on assessment and feedback.
