Academic Profile

I qualified as a solicitor in 2005 and joined the School of Law in September 2011. I now teach full time on the Civil Litigation, Commercial Law and Solicitors Accounts modules on the LPC; on the Commercial Law and the Law of Restitution modules at undergraduate level; on the International Business Transactions at Masters Level; and on the Company Law module on the GDL.

Whilst in private practice, I worked at an International law firm, where I specialised in Construction Litigation and Commercial Litigation matters. During my time in practice, I dealt with a number of contentious disputes for a wide range of clients, including: contract disputes; partnership disputes; Intellectual property disputes; and Insolvency disputes. I also gained extensive experience of Adjudication; Arbitration; Alternative Dispute Resolution and has advocacy experience in the High Court and County Courts.

I am also the Staff Mooting coordinator for the School of Law, which involves supervising, supporting and teaching those students who wish to take part in Mooting and Negotiation during their studies. I draw on my extensive experience of private practice, to assist the students in the development of these skills.

Teaching and Learning

My teaching on the undergraduate and GDL modules is focused on student led discussions of both problem questions and essay questions, drawing on both my academic and practical knowledge of the subject matter. On the LPC, my teaching focuses on the practical application of the law, as the course is undertaken by those students wishing to pursue a career as a solicitor. My teaching aims to teach students how to find the most effective solution for their client, in a particular scenario.

My role as a Mooting co-ordinator is to teach students the skills of analysing the law, putting the law into context, and constructing an argument from different points of view. These skills are very important to the students, both in their academic studies and in their chosen legal careers.
