Incoming Exchange Students: Support and Guidance
The School of Law has two members of staff who deal primarily with Erasmus/exchange students: the Director of International Affairs (Dr Richard Collins) and the Overseas Officer (Janet Rayner).
Both can be reached by emailing: law.exchanges@sheffield.ac.uk
Your first point of contact in the School for all your queries is the Overseas Officer who is there to assist you with any questions or problems you have during your time at Sheffield. If she is unable to answer your query herself, she will refer it to the relevant member of staff or university department.
All academic staff have an ‘office hour’ so if you have any queries about the content of a particular module and need to speak to the tutor you will be able to see them in their offices in Bartolomé House.
The University has a Student Support and Guidance team who have an International Student Bureau and who run an International Student Orientation Programme at the beginning of semester one. The Student Union also runs various events for International students throughout the academic year.
The English Language Teaching Centre runs various English classes to support students with their language skills. An English for Law class is run for students from the School of Law but there are also specialised English language classes such as academic writing, reading and speaking. These classes are free of charge for exchange students and are designed to help you to succeed with your assessments and get the most out of your time in Sheffield.
We also run a ‘language tandem’ scheme and can pair you with a Sheffield student who is keen to improve their language skills (usually French, German or Spanish).
The Student Services department offers a range of services for students with disabilities or dyslexia. If you are a student with a disability please notify us before your arrival in Sheffield and we will try to offer appropriate support to suit your individual needs.
