Higher Education Achievement Report
All undergraduates who started their studies at Sheffield in September 2012 will receive a Higher Education Achievement Report (HEAR) – a new and comprehensive record of students' university achievements that recognises both academic and extra-curricular learning.
Learning an additional language is one of the many extra-curricular activities that the University can include in your HEAR. The 'Languages for All' programme gives you the opportunity to study at a range of different levels, depending on your experience, and does not require you to sit exams unless you want to. You can get recognition for taking any extra-curricular (i.e. NOT for credit) module offered as part of this programme.
In order to gain HEAR recognition you must:
- Register for your course as a not-for-credit module.
- Attend at least 70% of classes.
- Adequately complete all course assignments as required, in accordance with the guidance you are given.
- Submit an application for recognition by Friday 21 June 2013.
To apply for HEAR recognition, click on the link to your module provider below and complete a short form to tell us which course you have completed.
If do not manage to apply for HEAR recognition by 21 June 2013, you will be given another opportunity to apply next year. If you have any questions about HEAR recognition, please email hear@sheffield.ac.uk.

The criteria above apply to additional languages taken with the departments below. Other language learning can also be recognised in the HEAR. For a complete list, visit the online activity database on the HEAR website and select 'Languages' as the activity theme.
