Buying a Laptop

Our departmental desktop computers are very high spec and are loaded with the latest software, so it is not essential that you buy a top end laptop but it will help.
The minimum spec for a laptop should be an Intel i3(or equivalent) processor or higher, at least 4gb RAM , and if it's within your budget get one with a separate graphics card (at least 512mb) instead of one that's integrated into the motherboard (this isn't essential but will help when working with 3d modelling etc.). PC or Mac is down to personal preference.
We use a range of applications, some of which are quite expensive to buy individual licences, so you will probably find that you still use the University computers for some work use.
