University of Sheffield graduates are valued for their enterprising approach to real-world problems. The University has identified 12 key attributes and skills of The Sheffield Graduate, which derive both from their first-rate education and their commitment to extra-curricular activities.

Landscape graduates from Sheffield display these qualities in distinctive ways, such as:

  • possessing both breadth and specialisation in knowledge
  • applying skills and knowledge to the real world
  • understanding the value of research for questioning received wisdom, understanding precedents, solving problems, and seeking imaginative solutions
  • excellent command of industry standard software
  • awareness of ethics in research and practice
  • creative and innovative responses to complex project briefs
  • developing a wide range of transferable skills cultivated through project work
  • possessing skills in ‘reflective practice’, in preparation for the LI Pathway to Chartership
  • insight into the social, economic and cultural values and potentials of different landscapes
  • involvement in volunteering and other complementary activities beyond the curriculum.

In 2009, Katie Hegmann and Emily Russell(BA Landscape Architecture with Planning) received the Sheffield Graduate Award.
