BA Journalism Studies entry requirements
We're asking for ABBWe want students who enjoy writing, are curious, interested in what happens around them and want to study the media. It will help you understand journalism and the course if you can complete a short period of work experience, ideally in the newsroom of your local newspaper or radio station. We usually ask for evidence of good academic achievement and potential. That means grades ABB at GCE A Level, or the equivalent (see the table below). You must apply through UCAS. Journalism courses are popular, and entry is very competitive. You will need to prepare your application carefully, and you may want more advice before you begin. Decisions about applications are made by admissions tutors, and the principal admissions tutor for the BA in Journalism Studies is Katie Stewart. You can meet Katie and other tutors at one of the Open Days organised by the University's admissions office.
Admissions policy: our promise to youWe're the best place in the UK to study journalism. So we want the best students. But we believe you're not just about your exam grades. When you apply, send us examples of your work. Submit a testimonial from a news editor you've had a work experience placement with. If there's any material that you believe makes your application more compelling, we want to see it. If your application is rejected, you can seek feedback or ask us to reconsider. We may have overlooked a crucial feature of your application. Your personal statement may have been ambiguous. We'll explain how we came to our decision. And in some cases we will revise the decision and make you an offer.
