We want students who enjoy writing, are curious, interested in what happens around them and want to study the media. It will help you understand journalism and the course if you can complete a short period of work experience, ideally in the newsroom of your local newspaper or radio station.

Journalism courses are popular, and entry is very competitive. You will need to prepare your application carefully, and you may want more advice before you begin. Decisions about applications are made by admissions tutors, and the principal admissions tutor for the BA in Journalism is Jonathan Foster. You can meet him at one of the Open Days organised by the university admissions office.

BA Journalism Studies admissions policy

We make no decisions about any Home or EU application until the deadline has passed. We believe that is the fairest system but it means that you will learn whether you have been made an offer only in February. We realise that date is later than many universities and we are sorry if the delay causes anxiety. It also offers opportunities. You can bring us up to date with any developments since you submitted your UCAS form. Are your predicted grades improved? Have you had work published? Have you completed work experience? Is there anything you want us to know that you were unable to include in your personal statement?

If so, write to us. Enclose examples of your work, or testimonials from a news editor, or any material that you believe makes your application more compelling.

If your application is rejected, you can seek feedback or ask us to reconsider. We may have over-looked a crucial feature of your application. Your personal statement may have been ambiguous. We will provide an explanation of our decision. And in some cases we will revise the decision and make you an offer. The contact details are the same as for information:
