Applying for BA Journalism Studies

The system is simple, but can seem daunting. The starting point has to be the University's centralised admissions service:

Read the prospectus and the departmental brochures. Make sure the programme of study is what you want. Explore this website. Consider the courses in detail – modules can be found on the 'Course Structure' page.

Check out the staff profiles and look at some of the work students have submitted. If you´re still keen, apply.

All applications for the BA in Journalism Studies must be made through UCAS.

Journalism courses are popular, and entry is very competitive. You will need to prepare your application carefully, and you may want advice before you begin.

Do not think the admissions procedure is rigid and inflexible. And do not hesitate to ask any question, or seek career advice about journalism. We regard persistent questioning as a journalistic virtue and, if you are determined enough, there is no reason why your application should not succeed, even if you do not meet some of the typical conditions.

Perhaps your school or college is part of the University's Outreach or Compact schemes. If so, ask them for more details, or contact us.

Mature students

Maybe you are a mature student – that means you will be aged more than 21 in the September of the year when you intend to begin studying full-time. We welcome enquiries from mature students, and often give detailed guidance about how they may enhance their applications.

International Students

Many international students have successfully completed journalism courses. The International Office is the best starting point for advice.
