MA and PgDip journalism degrees
Our suite of applied postgraduate courses is designed for people who want to establish a career in journalism. The four courses are closely linked to allow you to specialise in one aspect of journalism but ensure you have the multimedia skills and underpinning knowledge to work in modern newsrooms.

These intensive full time one year courses provide an excellent grounding in professional skills together with an understanding of contemporary journalism issues. They offer:
- Excellent teaching by experienced industry professionals and media academics
- The opportunity to work in newsrooms equipped to a high standard with the latest digital media technologies
- An introduction to the full range of multimedia skills needed in today’s media
- The opportunity to produce newspaper pages, radio and television bulletins, magazines and websites in a simulated workplace setting, meeting the challenges of deadlines and professional standards
- An understanding of the legal, ethical and regulatory requirements of the media industries
- The chance to undertake a work placement
- Careers advice and regular visits from working journalists and media managers
These courses can also be taken (at a reduced fee, EU residents only) for a nine month period leading to the award of Postgraduate Diploma. Students acquire all the necessary skills needed to gain employment, but do not undertake the portfolio required for the MA.

These courses have a mix of academic and practical work which equip you for further study to PhD level or a career in political or public communication. They offer:
- Theoretical insights into political communication or global journalism
- Some practical experience of communicating with the media and the relationship between journalists and media strategists
- Subject specific research training
- Specialist study in a range of areas including media ethics and regulation, censorship and media audiences
- The opportunity to engage in advanced level debates about political communication and global journalism.
