10 July 2007 Michael wins Finnish scholarshipMA print journalism student Michael Savage has won a scholarship to be a foreign correspondent in Helsinki for a month. |
The programme, Foreign Correspondents' Programme in Finland in 2007, is open to newly graduated journalists from around the world. |

Michael will join journalists from Brazil, China, India, Kenya, Russia, the USA and from many countries in the EU. |
|
Michael will work in Finland for the whole of August and all flights, accommodation and food are paid for by the Finnish foreign ministry. |
|
Michael said: “I’m really looking forward to the trip because the UK could learn a lot from Finalnd. Its government now has more women than men, it operates a proportional representation system of government and has a very successful education system. |
|
“I will also be visiting the first nuclear power plant to be built in western Europe for over a decade and investigating Russia’s tariff war with the Finnish logging industry.” |

Michael was also shortlisted in the Student Interviewer of the Year category in the Press Gazette Student Journalism Awards 2007 and now works at the Independent newspaper. |
