Facilities within the department

Professional and practical skills are taught in the Department´s newsrooms on the first and third floor of Minalloy House. The newsrooms are divided into broadcast, print and web areas.
The print newsroom is equipped with thirty PCs, all of which have access to the latest print production software such as Adobe Indesign, Incopy and Photoshop.
Students also have access to a Press Association newsfeed, a fax machine, telephones, daily newspapers and Sky TV.
The broadcast newsroom has PCs equipped with all the software needed for radio and TV production. It has its own radio and TV studios and six digital TV editing suites. Professional DV and HD camcorders and Marantz digital audio recording kits are available to students.
The web newsroom has twenty PCs equiped with multimedia and web authoring software, which includes Dreamweaver, Photoshop and Adobe Premiere.
The state of the art Press Association newsroom has 24 PCs loaded with software for print, broadcast and web journalism. The PCs are arranged in clusters of 6 and each cluster has its own dedicated plasma screen for viewing students work as well as digital TV.
