The group seeks to develop new methods of analysing health information and to undertake analyses in specific areas, e.g., public health, gerontology, geriatric medicine and palliative care. The group also undertakes research into the information needs and information seeking behaviours of patients and the public and undertakes evaluations of health information sources for these groups.

The Information School undertakes research and development in the Health Informatics training and education needs of healthcare professionals and staff. This is in relation to the MSc in Health Informatics programme that the Information School provides, in collaboration with the School of Health and Related Research (ScHARR). Many of the Health Informatics Research Group´s activities are carried out under the auspices of the Centre for Health Information Management Research (CHIMR).
