Undergraduate Students' Dissertations (INF314 and INF315)
Students undertaking dissertations on the BSc in Information Management programme should initially meet with their proposed supervisors to discuss their proposal. The student should submit their outline proposal with a cover sheet by the deadline. The proposed supervisor will complete an Ethics Checklist to assess whether Ethics Review is required and this is returned to the Undergraduate Ethics Coordinator. Students will be informed of their supervisor and whether they need to submit a research ethics application as soon as possible after the Departmental Research Committee has met to allocate supervisors.
If a research ethics application is required the student should:
- Complete the Research Ethics Application Form (plus Participant Information Sheet and Consent Form where applicable) and then arrange to meet with their supervisor. All of these forms can be accessed via the 'See also' box to the right.
- Get their supervisor to check the application and sign Section B of the Application Form
- The student should submit 3 copies of the completed Application Form (plus Participant Information Sheet and Consent Form if applicable) to the Undergraduate Ethics Coordinator by the required deadline.
Two reviewers who are independent of the research will be nominated by the Departmental Ethics Administrator. Initial review will be undertaken within 3 weeks of receipt of the application. The timescale for subsequent review will depend on the complexity of any amendments required.
The flowchart for the undergraduate student ethics review procedure with deadlines for the current year can be accessed from the download box above.
