About

The Sheffield International Development Network is a network of a large group of staff deployed in a number of University departments and linked to a wide range of external research and consultancy projects.
International development is valued as an integral cross-cutting theme across the university. Instead of being housed in a single and isolated department, development studies at Sheffield is taught by a truly inter-disciplinary network involving faculty in the departments of Economics, Geography, Law, Music, Politics, the School of Health and Related Studies, Sociological Studies, and Town and Regional Planning.
The Sheffield approach to teaching, researching and consultancy in Development Studies has a specialised emphasis on:
- The global governance of international development
- The politics of international development
- The greening of international development
- The social policy of international development
- The evaluation and effectiveness of international aid
Staff within the Sheffield International Development Network also have expertise in and working collaborations with governments, scholars and NGOs in a range of regions and countries: Botswana, Ghana, Namibia, Nigeria, Morocco, South Africa and Zambia, several Latin America countries, India and other parts of South Asia, South East Europe and parts of the former Soviet Union and of course UKDFID.
The Sheffield International Development Network extends far beyond Sheffield and involves professional collaboration with most international organisations: FAO, ILO, OECD, UNDP, UNDESA, UNESCO, WHO, World Bank and regional development banks.
