Sheffield student wins the UK's IOM3 Young Persons Lecture Final

Sinan Al-Bermani, a first year PhD student at the University of Sheffield, has won the annual Young Persons’ Lecture Competition with his lecture on digital manufacture for medicine.

Sinan, who works with Iain Todd and the AMRC, won the UK final of the IOM3 Young Persons' Lecture Competition, held last week at the Armourers Hall in the City of London.

The 7 finalists who had all come through local and regional qualifying rounds were each required to give a 15 minute presentation, and then answer 3 questions from the judging panel.

In a very high quality programme, Sinan's presentation entitled "Digital Manufacture for Medicine" was voted the winner, ahead of both the University of Bristol and the University of Birmingham with BP Aberdeen.

Sinan received his prize and Armourers Medal from the IOM3 chief executive, Bernie Rickinson and now goes forward to represent the UK (and Sheffield!) in the World final of the Lecture Competition to be held at the University of Florida in September.
