Sheffield - top city for students
Source: Sheffield Telegraph, 19 June 2008
Sheffield has been rated one of the best cities for students in the UK in a poll run by an accommodation website.
Sheffield comes behind only Newcastle in the survey based on over 36,000 student reviews from 56 university towns across the country.
The city came well ahead of others including London, Oxford, Cambridge, Leeds and Liverpool.
The poll carried out by accommodationforstudents.com asked those interviewed to rate their university location on five key areas. These were:
• going out (restaurants, pubs, clubs)
• shops
• transport links
• community quality (safety, student population, surroundings) and
• facilities (gyms, libraries, parks)
The survey was carried out by accommodationforstudents.com, whose co-founder, Simon Thompson, said: "This information represents students' real opinions about where they study."
The results show that the top-rated areas by students in Sheffield were the city centre, Hunters Bar and Ecclesall Road.
