An Audience with Lee Child

Best-selling crime fiction author, Lee Child, visited the University of Sheffield on Wednesday 19 November to host ‘An Audience with Lee Child’ at Firth Hall.

On 30 June 2008, it was announced that Lee Child would be taking up a Visiting Professorship at the University of Sheffield from November 2008. Lee graduated in Law from the University in 1977.

During his first visit to the University in November, Lee held writing workshops for students in the School of English Literature, Language, and Linguistics, took part in a question and answer session as part of the Off the Shelf Festival and was a guest at a book club formed at the University.

At the age of 40, following an eighteen-year career as a presentation director with Granada Television, Lee Child decided that he wanted to start writing novels, stating that they are "the purest form of entertainment". In 1997 his first novel, Killing Floor, was published. The book was an immediate success and launched a series which has grown in sales and impact with every new instalment. In fact, one of Lee´s books is sold, somewhere in the world, every second.
