Students host International Cultural Evening

The University of Sheffield´s Union of Students hosted an evening of entertainment from around the world on Saturday 24 April 2010.

The International Cultural Evening featured diverse performances from students and visitors, and this year included a fashion show, a chocolate fountain and a lucky draw. 15 student societies representing the University´s international student population performed on stage during the night.

The event raised money for the Haiti Emergency Appeal, run by the Disaster´s Emergency Committee (DEC). The evening was organised by the International Students´ Committee, who represent international students at the University and help to organise integrated activities with all students.

Alex Erdlenbruch, the International Students´ Officer from the Union of Students, said: "I am incredibly proud of our Union for hosting the most high profile international student event in the country. The International Students' Committee has worked very hard to bring this event to all our students and I hope that especially our British students will use this fantastic opportunity to learn about new cultures.

"Events like this one highlight the fact that we live in a multicultural and diverse society and this should be welcomed by all our students and residents in Sheffield. The International Cultural Evening brings the World to your doorstep so you don't have to go out and look for it."
