International Cultural Evening 2007

A spectacular blend of arts, music and movement from around the world.
Every year the Union of Students at the University of Sheffield celebrates a unique event. The occasion is aimed at promoting cultural awareness and to celebrate the diversity that international students bring to the university and city community. No other city in the UK celebrates our international students the way that Sheffield does. This year more than 1200 students attended the 35th International Cultural Evening.
The night started off with an amazing opening from the London School of Samba and our very own Samba society! This was followed by a special act of Venezuelan music and dance by the kids of St Marie’s School, a local Sheffield school.
Then the real cultural experience started, and more than 200 students shared the stage for almost 3 hours of cultural exuberance. The national societies involved were:
|

Chinese Students and Scholars Association CSSA
Vietnamese Society
Hellenic Society
Romanian Society
Sri Lankan Society
India Society
Mexican and Latin American Society
Japan Society
China Society
Malaysian & Singaporean Students MASSOC
Hispanic Society
East African Society
Persian Society
Taiwan Society
Afro-Caribbean Society
Bollywood Society
Part of the magic of the night is the student’s professionalism; they put their heart and soul into each of the performances, to the point that even though we did invite some great professional acts, the students had the audience guessing who was a professional and who wasn’t.
