Wow what an amazing week it has been so far! From International Cultural Evening on Saturday to this Sunday events have been going on all over the concourse and campus through out this whole week to promote World Week 2008!

Not to mention the results from part II of the officer elections came out. Next years 8 union officers are:

President: David Hurst
Education Officer: Rebecca Watson
International Students’ Officer: Sajeev Jeganathan
Finance Officer: Alex Pott
Welfare Officer: Kathryn Axon
Women's Officer: Fiona Edwards
Sports Officer: Ella White
Activities Officer: Matt Fox

Each day of this week a different region of the world was celebrated, East Asia Day, Americas & Europe Day and so forth. Everyday there was also a movie or two from that region of the world showing in the union for students to come and watch.

Not only did World Week help promote cultural awareness it also sought to help international students to adjust in the UK with the main focus being “Working in the UK”. There were drop in clinics for how to find a job as a university student and after, how to work on your CV and other such useful workshops.

The week kicked off with International Cultural Evening and what a night it was! Over 20 societies performed and I was really impressed by the quality of each performance. You could tell that the societies had put a lot of time and effort into their routines, whether it was a dance, song, music, plays every society and individual worked hard to make the night a success.

Unfortunately I missed most of the first half of the evening being to busy fussing and fretting over the fashion show individuals and making sure everyone was on time and ready, but in the end everything went well and the positive feedback about the night has been overwhelming.

The night, in fact the whole of World Week, would not have been a success without the hard work of the ISC (International Students Committee), the societies and all the individuals who volunteered their time and effort. I was truly blown over by firstly International Cultural Evening and now World Week. It has been a great week and I can’t wait for next years events to come around!
