Sonal's Web Diary
Examinations are over and we have a week of holidays before starting placement on the 24th of January.
Results will be published on the upcoming Thursday in the afternoon letting us know basically if we passed or failed. A more detailed feedback is usually available at a later date.
On Thursday we had the MEQ (Modified Essay Question) exam which was a series of short answers based around a particular scenario. The questions usually asked for a diagnosis, investigations, treatment and also asked about physiology, pathological processes and anatomy. There were 12 questions worth 10 marks each. On Friday we had the EMQ (Extended Matching Questions) which consisted of 150 questions in stems of 3 questions each. The group of 3 questions were grouped under a similar heading which may have been based on a speciality, i.e. eyes, or on a specific symptom, i.e. breathlessness etc.
After finishing exams I noticed not all the specialities were given equal weight in the examinations. In my opinion there weren’t many questions on Accident & Emergency medicine and anaesthetics which I found a bit odd as we spent 4 weeks in each module. As stated by the medical school there were questions based on past years work such as paediatrics, care of elderly, obstetrics & gynaecology and psychiatry and so forth.
With exams over the only thing left to do now is enjoy my next few days of holiday and worry about results closer to the time.
