Sonal's Web Diary
As the Easter holidays draw to a close the students slowly start drifting back to Sheffield ready to start their second semester. I quite enjoy being in Sheffield over the holidays, the city is nice and quiet and it is even easier to go shopping in town. Enough people are usually in Sheffield to stop one from being too lonely, but of course it is nice to have everyone come back and see them again.
This year the third year medical students received 2 weeks of Easter holiday and it was a beautiful break. The weather lately has been divine, with blue skies overhead telling you it is time to bring those tee shirts and sunglasses out. The next holiday we all receive will be in August so it’s going to be a long 3.5 month wait until then.
Starting back on Monday I will be on my psychiatry placement. Our first week consists of lecture covering mainly psychiatry as well as some care of the elderly and neurology. This next block consists of 4 main subjects: psychiatry, neurology, care of the elderly and a 2 week SSC (project). For this placement I will be placed in Sheffield, which will be a nice change from having to commute to Barnsley every day.
I am not too sure what to expect with this next placement in the sense that I am not sure what to anticipate from the patients, but as with any other placement it will be another opportunity to learn and see whether this field of medicine catches my interest or not.
