The University of Sheffield has excellent academic facilities to enhance the quality of your learning and research.
The Information Commons
The Information Commons is an impressive £23m library which is creating a new learning experience for staff and students. Students benefit from integrated access to printed and digital learning resources and IT facilities. The 'IC' has over 500 PCs, wireless networking and IT equipped classrooms, 100,000 of the most in-demand books, along with a 70-seat café. With 24 hour opening hours students can study at the times and at the pace that suits them.
Library facilities
The library has been collecting books, journals and other materials over the course of its existence for almost 100 years and is a learning hub for all our students. Library resources include:
- Over 1.4 million books, periodicals, microforms, DVDs and other items
- Over 2,200 study places in the libraries
- Over 9,000 electronic journals, electronic books and subject databases
- Open access PCs, photocopying and printing in most libraries
- Regular free minibus service to the British Library at Boston Spa
- Introductory tour
Computing facilities
When you become a University of Sheffield student you will get a University email account, secure server space and free access to the internet and software applications. There are staffed and unstaffed computing facilities across the campus and in some halls of residences. Many areas on campus support wireless networking, giving you the flexibility to access the resources you need whenever and wherever you need them.
Other facilities and resources
We also have an English Language Teaching Centre, a Writing Advisory Service and a Graduate Research Centre.
