University sport

The University recently invested £5.5m in redeveloping its sports facilities. The Sunday Times University Guide rated the University sports facilities as some of the best of any university in the UK.

There´s a high-tech gym, a 33-metre swimming pool, 45 acres of outdoor pitches, tennis, squash and badminton courts, and one of the biggest bouldering walls in the country.

The facilities are very popular with our international students, who have a habit of making a big impression in our sporting leagues.

City of sport

Sport is big in Sheffield. There are world-class facilities at Don Valley International Stadium, Sheffield Arena, and Ponds Forge swimming and diving complex. Sheffield Ski Village is the largest dry ski slope in Europe. The Peak District National Park is a haven for rock climbers, walkers and cyclists.

There are two football teams in Sheffield: Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday. Cheap student tickets are sometimes available. Our rugby, ice hockey and basketball teams compete at international level. The city also hosts national athletics events, the world snooker championship, and more.
