Sri Lankan Society International Food Festival participants

The University of Sheffield's Students' Union held its annual World Food Festival on the 14th of November.

The event, organised by the International Students' Committee, attracted the participation of many of the university's national societies covering all regions of the world (Americas, Africa, Europe, Middle East, South East Asia, South Asia and East Asia.)

Participating societies showcased their traditional cuisine with a panel of judges awarding marks for appearance of the food stand, the quality of the food prepared and the overall effort made.

The Sri Lankan society, serving samples of Jaggery, Seeni Sambol, Katta Sambol and Mung Ata Kiribath, was awarded the runners-up prize, a great feat given the competition amongst the participating societies.

The evening itself was a sell-out success with over 1,000 guests sampling the range of world cuisines. Entertainment was provided by a range of other societies including the Bollywood and the Salsa Society and this, combined with the after-party, ensured that most participants had ample opportunity to burn off those extra calories.
