Taruna Gupta

Taruna graduated from the University of Sheffield in 2010 with a BSc in Biomedical Science.
I am currently a second year studying Biomedical Sciences at Sheffield. The reason I chose to come to Sheffield was its high ranking for my course. The Department has excellent standards of teaching via lectures, weekly lab sessions and tutorials. In the second year we have Anatomy incorporated in the course which involves dissection of the human body.
Sheffield is a very beautiful, green city with a lot of hills. The University and most student accommodation are both closely located, ensuring that lecture theatres, the Students´ Union, sports centres, shops, bars, restaurants and cinemas are in close proximity. The transport system is very efficient whereby trams, buses and trains make all areas easily accessible. The night life in Sheffield is amazing and all types of music are catered for. Sheffield is one of the safest city in the UK and has the cheapest living costs which works well for students.
There is a significant range of societies, If you are not sure what you want to do the University runs `Give it a Go´ sessions where you can just try something new. The sports facilities are excellent and if you come from a warm city the ski village might be worth going to experience something new. If you fancy a hike the peak district is breath taking, it´s good for cycling as well or even just a day out. The University has students from various countries hence it is easy to experience various cultures. There is an active East African Society and African Caribbean Society where you can meet people from all over Africa or just around home.
Sheffield has a lot to offer, have an open mind and be enthusiastic. The most difficult bit is debatably leaving the security of your home and not knowing what to expect. However, I can assure you with everything Sheffield offers the transition you go through is made very easy.
