How do I...

...know if the book I requested is ready for collection?

You will get an e-mail telling you where it is being held and for how long.

...collect a book I requested?

If the collection site is the IC, you will be able to use the self-service collection facility on Level 0.

...get a book not held by this University Library

You will need to request it through the Document Supply Service at one of the Libraries (not the IC). The Library also runs a free minibus to the British Library Document Supply Centre at Boston Spa for staff and students to use the Reading Room and its facilities.

...buy or sell a second hand book?

Books on a Budget is the Students' Union online bookshop designed for students to buy and sell second hand books from their reading lists each semester. It could save you a lot of money and is completely safe as no money is exchanged online. The site allows people wanting to buy to contact the seller and arrange a way of buying the book(s).

...find a book on the shelves?

Check STAR for the shelfmark. Use the directories between the lifts, or click the link below to see which Level to go to.

...borrow a book?

There are self-service facilities on Levels 0, 1, 2 and 4. You need your UCard and your Library PIN. It's best to issue your books before you get to Level 0 as that one tends to be the busiest.

...return a book?

There are self-service facilities just inside the entrance and near the Café. The one by the entrance will accept IC books; simply place them one at a time on the conveyor belt. The one by the Café will accept books from other Library sites, but you will need to open the book so that the barcode can be scanned.

...keep a book for longer?

You can renew books as many times as you like via myLibraryAccount from the Library tab in MUSE, provided they haven’t been requested by anyone else.

...pay a fine?

You can pay fines online through MUSE or by cash at the Information Desk (during service hours). You can borrow until you have fines of over £10 on your account. All debts must be cleared before you finish your course.

...use ejournals, subject databases and ebooks?

You can access these through the Library tab in MUSE on any computer or kiosk.

...check myLibrary Account?

Keep your Library account up-to-date, renew your books and avoid fines by regularly checking myLibrary Account from the Library tab in MUSE.
