How do I...

...get a computer account?

At the beginning of the academic year (12th Sept. - 23rd Sep.), you will need to come to the IC to get your computer account. At any other time, computer accounts are obtained from the Computing Centre on Hounsfield Road.

...get a new computer password?

If you have forgotten your password, you can get a new one from the Information Desk during service hours. You can change your password yourself (provided you know it) using the Computer Account Management page.

...change my password?

Go to the Computer Account Management page.

...unfreeze my account?

Go to the Computer Acount Management page. Once your account is unfrozen, you must then delete files you no longer need, or transfer them to another device such as CD or USB stick. You can buy these from the Level 0 Information Desk.

...connect to the wireless network?

You will need to follow a few simple instructions, which you can get from the Information desk,  or from the CiCS website. Once connected, you will be able to use your laptop anywhere in the IC and in many locations on campus. If you have problems after following the instructions, take your laptop to the Information Desk or press the help button on a Business Unit phone and we will help you.

...use the Kiosks?

There are Kiosks on Levels 0-4, including the café. They differ from the PCs in that they have smaller screens and are only for web-use. The ones on Levels 1-4 only allow you to search the Library catalogue, but the ones on Level 0 also allow you to check your email, access your online courses using MOLE and use all of the web-based resources found in MUSE. They do not, however, give you access to your network filestore or your files, so although you can read and send emails, you cannot send or save attachments.

...get my email?

Log into MUSE and then click the Google Apps icon on the top right.

...book a PC?

Over a third of the PCs in the IC are bookable. To book one, follow the link in the myQuickLinks section of MUSE. The system uses the 24 hour clock, so remember that 02:00 is 2am, not 2pm!

...charge my laptop battery?

You can plug your laptop in at any desk which does not have a PC on it, or you can use the floor sockets located around the building. However, please do not unplug lights or PCs and take care not to trail your cable across the floor.
