Staff Patrols
We will be increasing the frequency of staff patrols during the day and night. Anyone found behaving in a discourteous or disruptive manner may be asked to leave the building immediately and without warning. Belongings left at study desks and PCs for more than 30 minutes may be removed.
If you require any support, advice or assistance during this period, or at any other time whilst using the Information Commons, please do not hesitate to speak to a member of staff. You can do this in person, or by ringing extension 29999 (or pressing the Help button) on any of the phones in the building.
Alternatively for non-urgent issues you can email us on the address below.

How you can help
Think about what you want to achieve during your visit to the IC and bear the following in mind to help you and those around you get the best out of the IC during this very busy period.
- If you are coming to the IC alone and wish to study by yourself then it would be advisable to use the silent spaces where absolutely no talking is allowed.
- If you’re coming with friends, but you all have your own work to concentrate on, we advise you to use the ‘Quiet floors’ where you are allowed to talk occasionally and quietly if you need to.
- If you have some group work to do and you know you’ll need to discuss this, then we recommend that you use Level 4 where you won’t disturb other people.
- Don't forget that the IC is not the only place you can study! There are many computer rooms on campus and all have printing facilities. The Libraries all have quiet study spaces, PCs and printing facilities. Many places are still open after 5pm - Western Bank Library and St. George's Library have extended opening hours during exams.
Please also observe the following rules to help alleviate pressure on the IC:
- Please do not reserve PCs or desks by leaving your belongings on them.
- Please cancel your PC Booking if you no longer need it.
- Please observe the rules of the area you are studying in, particularly the silent spaces.
- Please tidy all litter, books and papers away when you leave your desk.
- Please turn your mobile phone to silent or vibrate while you are in the building.
- Please report any faults, damage or problems as quickly as possible to IC staff.
