Health Matters
ICOSS is hosting a series of workshops entitled "Health Matters". The workshops bring together researchers from across the Faculty of Social Sciences, ScHARR and the University to discuss common research interests in health.
Workshop 1, 5th February 2009
The aim of the workshop was to bring together researchers from across the Faculty to discuss research interests in health with a view to forming multi-disciplinary collaborations for future research.
After an Introduction from Allison James, several researchers from across the faculty outlined key current research issues in health. This was followed by discussion within groups on what are the important research questions to be addressed and potential sources of funding for these.
Further details of what was discussed and who attended can be found in Dr Peter Bath's "Workshop 1 Notes" available in the Downloads menu (right).
Workshop 2, 30th March 2009
This workshop discussed the following topics:
* Global health governance
* Stigmatisation
* Ethics and morality in health
* Perceptions of risk in people´s lives
* The expert patient
Joel Minion drew on his research to identify ways in which the five topics above are important for people living with HIV/AIDS. This facilitated discussion on the relationship of these issues with health more generally and the potential for collaborative research in these areas.
Dr Peter Bath's notes on the workshop are available to download here (see right-hand menu).
