The University of Sheffield
Continuing Education for Health and Social Care Practitioners

How to apply

Learning Beyond Registration (LBR) is the name used for education funded by regional NHS strategic health authorities to provide non-medical and NHS professionals with courses and modules (subject to their eligibility). The aim is to provide healthcare staff with education courses that are *a key priority for the workforce delivery of their respective Trusts*.

In South Yorkshire and East Midlands NHS organisations applicants are required to gain authorisation from their Trusts through their Trust LBR Lead. Your Trust will have a LBR application process and procedure which you will need to follow in consultation with your line manager and Trust LBR Lead to gain Trust approval for your application.

There are different application processes depending on what you are applying for:

  1. Accredited units/modules
  2. Non-accredited study days
  3. Postgraduate courses

A. Accredited units/modules

1. Application

2. Approval

After you´ve sent your application you must fill in a Fees and Funding form. If you´re a new applicant, you´ll receive an email from us giving you an applicant number and the funding form will be attached. You´ll also receive a Ucard application form which you need to complete and return to us with a passport sized photo. If you´re a continuing student, we´ll send you an email (with funding and Ucard forms attached) reminding you of your registration number.

3. Registration

When we receive your funding form, we´ll send you an offer letter giving details of the unit/s you have applied and been accepted for. Please note that you will not be registered on your selected unit/s until we receive your funding form and Ucard application. In some cases you may be required to provide further information to support your application and registration on courses that lead to an academic award.
You will also be sent a letter asking you to register online, with guidance on how to complete this process.
It is very important that you register as a student at the University of Sheffield before you start your course. If you are not fully registered, you should not attend taught sessions and you will not be able to access library and IT facilities.

NB Continuing students may not be required to register online if they have undertaken a unit at the University of Sheffield in the same financial year.
