Who is it for?

The unit is suitable for health service staff who wish to develop their understanding of how theory and research can be used to inform the practice of management and the promotion of team effectiveness. It is suitable for individuals who already have managerial responsibility together with those who recognise the importance or developing this understanding in order to become an effective team member. The module is suitable for health professionals who have a clinical focus but also individuals whose role is not directly clinical.

What is it about?

The unit explores the development of management, leadership and organisational theory. The emphasis is on understanding fundamental principles relating to these disciplines, enabling students to use these principles to promote effective team working and team performance in the health care setting.

How does it enhance practice?

On completion of the module individuals will have an understanding of the fundamental principles that can be used to inform practice as both a manager and a team member. They will recognise the importance of using evidence and research regarding organisational behaviour and organisational effectiveness to promote effective team performance.

Mode of Assessment:

Assignment of 3000 words that examines the impact of the structure and culture of health and social care organisations on management and leadership
